Philosophy
My experiences as a clinical massage therapist for the past 22 years have left me in awe of our ability to heal and find balance, and full of gratitude to join others on their individual healing journey.
It is important to me to understand your individual needs and integrate a variety of techniques and approaches into each session. Over the years I have developed an increased awareness of the subtleties of the human body and healing process, and this has proven invaluable in my ability to assess a problem and create a space for you to heal.
My approach to massage therapy always centers on finding an appropriate pressure or technique and listening carefully to feedback from you to maintain your comfort level.
In my ability to identify the source of pain or imbalance it is more productive to address it without increasing your pain levels. The “no pain-no gain” approach causes elevated stress in the body and results in an increase in muscle tension. Although some techniques are uncomfortable I always ask for feedback to achieve optimal therapeutic results.
I also collaborate with a wide network of professional referrals to help you achieve your health goals.
My Background
After a pre-med track at Michigan State University to complete a B.S. in Microbiology I decided I wanted to approach the field of health more holistically than the allopathic medical model. Shortly thereafter I completed a certificate in massage therapy from Lansing Community College and then completed a National Certification in Massage and Bodywork in 1999.
I specialize in injury rehabilitation, sports massage, neuromuscular therapy, pregnancy massage, and stress relief. I also have training in Esoteric Healing under Dr. Barbara Briner, Polarity Therapy, and Therapeutic Touch to offer an expanded approach.
Helping others is one of the greatest gifts we can give. Since I was a little girl growing up on a farm, I have always found joy in helping those in need – be it a person or animal. My career as a clinical massage therapist has been an amazing expression and fulfillment of that deep desire to help others. Thankfully I am now a licensed wildlife rehabilitator to support my passion to help animals too.
